Vacation, Day 1

Matt and I have not had a get away trip in several years. In fact, the last time we left Carson somewhere overnight was almost a year ago. My mom graciously offered send us on a mini vacation and keep Carson so we could spend some much needed time together. We decided to go to Hot Springs; one because it was not too far away and two because we have not really been to Hot Springs except to eat once or twice.

So, after saying our goodbyes to Carson, we were off. We decided to take a scenic route to Hot Springs. Our first stop was Mount Nebo.

Mount Nebo was really pretty. Since it was still pretty early in the morning when we got there the fog had not lifted. On the way up the mountain there where a lot of switchbacks. We saw a sign that said crooked and steep. My husband just smiled when he saw that. We got out and went down one of the trails to see the waterfall, only to realize once we got there that there wasn't one. It was a seasonal waterfall and I guess we weren't there at the right time. Oh well. We did see a few deer while we were there and they were rather close to us as you can tell by the picture below. I wasn't even zoomed in when I took the picture.

We had fun driving to Mount Nebo and getting out and exploring some. Now it was time for our next stop. Mount Magazine.

Mount Magazine is absolutely beautiful. We went on a short hike to the highest point of the mountain, which also happens to be the highest point in Arkansas. As we were walking along the trail there where two deer that jumped across the trail right in front of us. It was so cool.

We also went to the overlook where we were able to capture some great pictures. We drove around the mountain some more and came across The Lodge. We were not expecting any this grand to be on the side of the mountain. It was beautiful. We decided to have lunch here and had a wonderful view while we ate. The food was great. Matt had the country fried chicken with mashed potatoes that were smothered in white gravy, green beans and a scrumptious roll. I had a salad and a chicken sandwich on a crescent roll with crispy fries. The fries where so good that you didn't even need ketchup.

On our way down the mountain we stopped at Petit Jean and took a few pictures.

On our way to Hot Springs, we stopped at the Nimrod Dam.

We finally made it to Hot Springs later that afternoon and checked into our fabulous hotel.
